Ubuntu still wouldn't boot after replace older (multiboot) /etc/fstab

Took me a while to find out what the problem was here.
As usual, I first got rid of all the UUID references even including the one for /dev/sda9 which was the SWAP partition on the MacBook.
However, still didn't work.
Then I found that the "kernel" line in /boot/grub/menu.lst contained a reference to "root=UUIDXXXXXXX). As I had taken out all the UUID stuff, this wasn't here anymore. So, I substituted this for /dev/sda3 and then everything worked fine.
