Managed to get Hardy Ubuntu on the desktop

When I tried to update Gutsy to Hardy on the desktop about a week ago, I couldn't get it to boot.
So, I tried it again, but this time I used the install CD rather than a network upgrade.
And this seemed to work fine.
The only problem I had is that Hardy no longer caters for legacy cards such as my ancient nVidia GeForce4 MX 420 card.
So, I had to install the driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.05-pkg1.run) separately.
The only problem I had with this install was that I had to install libc6-dev beforehand. Note that no build-essential is available anymore so at least it doesn't have to be separately installed.
