Upgrade to Hardy on newer Dell desktop

Margaret's computer (Dell E520) had Gutsy loaded.
As I intended to install Edubuntu for her, I upgraded to Hardy today.
This was done totally from the Internet and went very smoothly with no slow download problems. In all it took less than two hours.
As opposed to the bad experience I had on my older Dell (4550) desktop, this upgrade went absolutely trouble-free and performance afterwards was just fine.
Nevertheless, the boot doesn't stay in GUI mode and breaks out into text-mode just as it did on my MacBook after the upgrade.
