Problems upgrading AWN (0.2.1 >> 0.2.6) on Zenwalk

I had previously installed AWN 0.2.1 from here by just moving to the / directory and untarring (there was also one dependency I needed to install but overall it was very easy).
Now I tried to install AWN 0.2.6 by compiling from source from here but I got an error starting it from a terminal. Full details are shown in this thread.
In summary, though, it looks like I'll be going back to 0.2.1 as the awn-manager in 0.2.6 won't work in Zenwalk without a python bugfix.
