Why can't I get wifi to work in Puppy Linux on EeePC?

It's ironic that of two small-footprint Linux OSes that I've installed on my Asusu EeePC 901, wifi, but not ethernet, works in DSL but for Puppy Linux 4.1.1 Ethernet works but not wifi even though the driver (rt2860 sta) is available and the setup seems to configure things perfectly.
but, still I can't ping or browse after the setup.
I posted to the Puppy forum on this but have yet to get a resolution.
Two other very useful threads in regard to this problem are:

2. Extra drivers for Puppy 4.1 with 2.6.25.16 kernel
