Mac Ports

The other day I wrote about the disappointing, IMHO, Haiku Ports system at least when I compared it to the reliable well-oiled machine that is the FreeBSD ports.
Well, here's another ports system which also shows up the inadequacies of the Haiku system -- Mac Ports.
It's easy to install on your Mac (just a simple .dmg file) and has a great and very comprehensive guide to enable you to get the most out of it.
Right now there are just under 2,000 active ports ready for install.
I tried one, coincidentally the BZFLAG game that wouldn't install for me on Haiku, and everything went very smoothly although I was a bit surprised at how long it took (about 30 minutes).
I haven't yet installed the Apple X-Code developer tools but probably will soon.
