Can't get desired screen resolution in Kurumin VM

I posted to the Kurumin forum about this but, up to now, received no worthwhile replies.
As usual, when this happens, it generally means there's no ready answer.
I don't know whether the fact that I haven't been able to install VMware-tools is a factor in this strange behaviour.
Nor sure where to go from here with Kurumin because, as things stand, every time I shut down VMware Server, I lose all the changes that I made,
As an example, I have to repeat exactly the same setup procedure in yakuake after every boot. This makes the OS almost unusable.
I'm sure I didn't have this problem with the Kurumin VM on my Dell desktop.
