I had a bit of a problem today in scanning a signed document and then trying to send a printable file as an email attachment.
Producing the .tiff file from the scanner (Epson Perfection 1260) was not a problem using Xsane in Ubuntu 9.04.
However, when I tried to print the file, I just got a blank page even though the printer sounded as though it was printing something.
Turns out the problem was in the scanner settings that I chose.
I was scanning in Gray mode and had selected the Slide media type.
But when I changed these respectively to Color and Full Color Range, the files (well, I only tried the .tiff file) printed perfectly from the Gnome Image Viewer.
