VMware Server in Ubuntu Eee

Did I mention that I think my EeePC 901 is a truly wonderful machine? Right now, I hardly ever use my previously much-cherished MacBook and spend the whole day, or as much as possible, on the EeePC.
Today, I wanted to install VMware Server and started with the new version 2.0 This is a >500MB download and needs to be started from a special port on the local host (127.0.0.1). Although I was able to get it installed and started, I couldn't figure out how to run the Senryu PE.vmk
In any event, this version seems to have many more options than I'm ever likely to need, so I uninstalled it and installed version 1.0.6 instead.
This behaved much better but only after I ran the two lines mentioned here

sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.2.3/libgcc_s.so /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1

and
sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0 /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0

Not only that, but I was unable to go to full screen mode for the same reasons as described here.
This time, the fix given in that link didn't work. I have the impression that I just need to specify a display mode in a Display Subsection in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to be able to get to FullScreen mode. I'll have a go at this tomorrow.
Nevertheless, it's not too bad that I've been able to get a virtual SenryuPE.vmx working pretty well on my EeePC.
This truly is a very powerful, yet highly portable, machine.
